KUPANG | LINTASTIMOR.ID – Dengan semangat yang membara dan tekad membangun generasi emas olahraga, Gubernur Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) Mekiades Laka Lena hari ini, Selasa (9/9/2025), secara resmi membuka Pekan Olahraga Pelajar Daerah (POPDA) VII NTT Tahun 2025 di Stadion Oepoi, Kupang.
Ajang ini menjadi momentum penting, bukan hanya sebagai ruang kompetisi, melainkan juga sebagai panggung untuk mencetak atlet-atlet muda yang kelak akan mengharumkan nama NTT di pentas nasional. POPDA 2025 juga menjadi bagian dari persiapan besar daerah ini menuju PON XXII Tahun 2028, di mana NTT akan tampil sebagai tuan rumah.
Ribuan Peserta, Tujuh Cabang Bergengsi
Sebanyak 1.440 orang ambil bagian dalam POPDA VII. Mereka terdiri dari 1.186 atlet, 229 pelatih, dan 125 manajer, berasal dari 19 kabupaten/kota se-NTT.
Ada 7 cabang olahraga yang dipertandingkan dengan total 152 nomor pertandingan, mulai dari tinju, pencak silat, taekwondo, karate, kempo, tenis meja, hingga atletik. Pertandingan berlangsung pada 9–13 September 2025, tersebar di berbagai venue Sport Center Kupang.
Pesan Sportivitas dari Gubernur
Dalam sambutannya, Gubernur Mekiades Laka Lena menekankan nilai sportivitas sebagai jiwa sejati olahraga.
“Yang menang rayakan dengan rendah hati, yang kalah terima dengan lapang dada. Kepada wasit dan juri, mari junjung integritas, sebab keputusan anda menentukan masa depan anak-anak kita,” ujarnya penuh ketegasan dan kelembutan.
Apresiasi untuk Semua Pihak
Gubernur juga menyampaikan terima kasih atas kerja keras panitia, dukungan pemerintah kabupaten/kota, KONI, sponsor, insan pers, orang tua, dan seluruh pihak yang memastikan terlaksananya POPDA VII NTT 2025.
Tahun ini, POPDA dirangkai dengan peluncuran Pembinaan dan Latihan Olahraga Daerah (PPLD) serta Pusat Pembinaan dan Latihan Olahraga Mahasiswa Daerah (PPLMD) sebagai pusat pembinaan jangka panjang. Selain itu, seluruh atlet juga mendapatkan perlindungan dari BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.
Generasi Emas NTT
Dengan semangat “Olahraga Satukan Kita”, Gubernur mengajak seluruh masyarakat menjadikan POPDA VII NTT 2025 sebagai tonggak lahirnya generasi emas olahraga NTT.
“Mari kita bangun generasi olahraga NTT yang sehat, tangguh, berkarakter, dan siap mengharumkan nama daerah di pentas nasional maupun internasional. Ayo Bangun NTT!” pungkasnya.

POPDA VII NTT Officially Opened: Governor Mekiades Laka Lena Inspires the Golden Generation of Sports
KUPANG | LINTASTIMOR.ID – With burning spirit and determination to shape a golden generation of athletes, the Governor of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Mekiades Laka Lena, officially opened the 7th Regional Student Sports Week (POPDA VII NTT 2025) today, Tuesday (September 9, 2025), at Oepoi Stadium, Kupang.
This event is not merely a competition, but also a stage to nurture young athletes who will one day bring glory to NTT on the national stage. POPDA 2025 is also part of the grand preparation as NTT gets ready to host the 22nd National Sports Week (PON XXII) in 2028.
Thousands of Participants, Seven Prestigious Sports
A total of 1,440 participants are taking part in POPDA VII, consisting of 1,186 athletes, 229 coaches, and 125 managers, representing 19 districts and cities across NTT.
There are 7 sports being contested with a total of 152 competition numbers, ranging from boxing, pencak silat, taekwondo, karate, kempo, table tennis, to athletics. Competitions will run from September 9–13, 2025, across various venues at the Kupang Sport Center.
Governor’s Message on Sportsmanship
In his remarks, Governor Mekiades Laka Lena emphasized the value of sportsmanship as the true spirit of sport.
“Winners should celebrate with humility, losers must accept with grace. To referees and judges, uphold integrity, because your decisions shape the future of our children,” he stated firmly yet gently.
Appreciation to All Parties
The Governor also expressed gratitude for the hard work of the organizing committee, the support of district/city governments, KONI, sponsors, the press, parents, and everyone who made POPDA VII NTT 2025 possible.
This year, POPDA is also marked by the launch of the Regional Sports Training and Development Program (PPLD) and the Regional University Student Sports Training Center (PPLMD), as long-term development hubs. Furthermore, all athletes are covered by BPJS Employment insurance.
NTT’s Golden Generation
With the spirit of “Sports Unite Us”, the Governor invited all people to make POPDA VII NTT 2025 a milestone for the birth of NTT’s golden generation in sports.
“Let us build a generation of NTT athletes who are healthy, strong, of good character, and ready to bring honor to this region on both the national and international stage. Let’s Rise, NTT!” he concluded.
