Covalima Police Tighten Security Operations Under Alerta II Status

COVALIMA, LINTASTIMOR.ID – The National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL) in Covalima Municipality continues to enforce Alerta II Order as part of ongoing security measures.

The joint operation, led by Assistant Inspector Moises do Carmo Marçal, involved officers from the Traffic and Road Safety Unit, the Rapid Intervention Reserve Unit, and other sections. The team carried out a “Stop Operation” (checkpoint) in Rai Fila, Zumalai Administrative Post, Covalima.

During the operation, many citizens traveling in and out of Covalima on their way to Dili or other municipalities were inspected. However, 10 drivers were found violating regulations by driving without the appropriate category license, carrying expired vehicle documents, or failing to present vehicle papers. These offenders were fined and instructed to pay at BNCTL Bank Covalima Branch.

According to PNTL, the operation was not only about enforcing traffic rules but also aimed at preventing third parties from infiltrating student activities of the East Timor University (EUTL), who are awaiting the outcome of parliamentary discussions on abolishing the Lifetime Pension Law.

The operation also sought to raise public awareness on road safety and to protect communities from unexpected risks and hazards on public roads.

“PNTL hopes the community will increasingly understand the importance of carrying valid documents and respecting traffic regulations for the safety of all,” read the official statement from PNTL Covalima Media.
